What does sports therapy treat?

One of the most common questions we’re asked at Continuum Wellness is, “What does sports therapy treat?” Fortunately, our team has the experience necessary to answer this question.

Our Continuum Wellness team has spent years providing the residents of Apache Junction, Arizona with high-quality physical therapy. During all of our years serving this community, we’ve learned that personalized therapy is the most effective way to treat injuries and medical conditions. This is why we’ll always take the time to find out what your questions and concerns are regarding your condition or injury and your therapy. We’ll also perform an initial evaluation to determine how your body is being affected by your issue. Having all of this information from the beginning allows our team to choose the therapies for your plan that help you heal as much and as quickly as possible. It’s this philosophy that allows us to create such effective sports therapy plans.

Some conditions sports therapy helps treat

Our team can tell you that sports therapy plans are designed to help athletes treat sports injuries. We can also tell you that there are many therapy methods that we typically use in sports therapy plans.

One therapy method our team frequently uses in sports injury treatment is strengthening exercises. Such exercises allow us to help you address muscle weaknesses and imbalances that may have caused your injury in the first place. For instance, you have a greater chance of injuring your rotator cuff if you have weak shoulder muscles.

Another therapy method we often use to treat sports injuries is electrical stimulation. This therapy method involves our team using a machine that generates low-power electrical pulses. To allow these pulses to enter your body, we’ll attach electrode pads to your body near the site of your injury. We find that electrical stimulation may be particularly helpful if you have a soft tissue injury such as a muscle strain or sprain.

Some of the other therapy methods our team regularly uses when treating sports injuries include heat and cold therapy and targeted stretching exercises. These therapies are by no means all of the ones at our disposal, but the goal of any therapy we include in your plan is the same. This goal is to promote healing and attempt to reduce your pain. Our sports therapy is often used to meet such goals for sports injuries such as:

  • Hamstring strains
  • Groin pulls
  • Tennis or golf elbow
  • Shoulder injuries
  • ACL tears
  • Concussions
  • Patellofemoral syndrome

We hope that we’ve helped you better understand what sports therapy treats. Our team at Continuum Wellness also hopes that your improved understanding will help you manage your sports injury treatment. But, there’s one other vital piece of information we want you to know, which is that you should begin your therapy as soon as possible after your injury.
